Cooking with Ancient Ingredients
  • Cooking with Ancient Ingredients

In this cooking class, we will explore the origins of Israeli and Middle Eastern food cultures and bring ancient flavors to life! Although just a few studies have been made about the food consumed by ancestors or ancient populations, we can portray detailed pictures from archeological finds of meal remnants, and ancient recipes and regional cooking styles engraved on clay tablets. Biblical stories also shed light on old-time feasts, and we can draw a lot of information from the traditional Arabic cuisines, which haven’t changed much for generations. In our cooking class, we will be focusing on ingredients that are native to the historical region and are praised today for their nutritional benefits in creating several unusual dishes. The menu will include flavorful flatbread, freekeh dish, yogurt dip, field greens salad, and sweet lentil balls. An ancient beverage will accompany the feast. This in-person class takes place in the instructor’s home, and some dishes will be cooked outdoors if the weather permits. The instructor will primarily demonstrate the dishes but be ready for at least one hands-on experience. All prepared dishes will be served throughout the class.

The event is 2.5 hours long and takes place at the instructor’s home in Needham, MA.
